Last update: april 2008

At a time of accelerating climate change, intense development pressures on coastal and marine resources, and a widening gap in inequality between coastal communities and inland areas, the need for maritime co-operation is greater than ever.

SAIL, formed in 1999, is a partnership of regional and local authorities, maritime organisations, and coastal and marine agencies, working together for the sustainable development of the Southern North Sea tidal area.

One of the major accomplishments of the SAIL partnership are the sustainability indicators for the Southern North Sea region.
